Community Forest by Hectares

The Fort St. James Community Forest is Area-Based, so think of if as its own little Timber Supply Area, where nobody else can harvest and the Community holds the long-term tenure. There are 3 areas or “Forest Development Units” (FDUs) that make up the Fort St. James Community Forest; Dog Creek, Murray Ridge and Onjo. Learn more about these areas on our Forest Operations & Maps page.

Our Guiding Principles

1.  Local employment will be considered first in order to facilitate the growth of local business and community involvement.

2.  Will demonstrate the capability to practice exemplary stewardship of an extremely complex, diverse, and rich area.

3.  Stakeholder consultation will be conducted through local advertisement and community events.

4.  Community consultation will be facilitated through Mayor and Council.

5.  Manage the community forest resources to maximize the economic and social benefits to the community.

6.  Safety is crucial to the success of the management of the community forest.  Forest worker safety will take precedence over any facet of activities on the community forest.

Our Structure

The Community Forest is overseen by the Community Forest Commission with authority of Mayor and Council. The resource is managed by KDL Resource Management. The Commission meets monthly. Please contact the District office for more information.
